2013-08-29Announcing new games for Essen 2013
We are sure that you are looking forward to Spiel ’13 as much as we are. So, like previous years, we have prepared for you a preview of the new games and expansions coming out this season. You can join us in the combat arena of fallen heroes with Vlaada’s new game Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends, or tame various creatures in the forbidden area in Imp town, or try to get kicked out of your precious job, or build a spaceship in the shape of a sphere, or sit among old mythical Maya and drink a cup of cocoa by the fire.
The choice is up to you!
Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends
Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends is a game played by masters of magic. Two to four summoners encounter each other in the Tash-Kalar arena, either in teams or each on his own, and prove their skill and strategy in a short but intense battle. By clever deployment of their minions, they create magic patterns for summoning powerful beings, and then use those to destroy their opponent’s forces or to prepare patterns for the ultimate legendary beings.
The game includes three different factions (but two copies of one of them), each with a unique deck of beings to summon. There is also a deck of legendary creatures. Players take turns placing their common pieces on the board, and if they succeed in creating the pattern depicted on one of the cards in hand, they may play it. When played, the card summons a specific being and allows the player to perform an effect described on the card.
Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends offers two game modes. In the standard mode you score points for fulfilling various tasks set by the Arena Masters: controlling certain points or areas of the arena, destroying a number of enemy pieces in a single turn, performing a certain combination of summonings, etc.
In the other mode of play, your only goal is to entertain the crowd. You do that by primarily destroying your opponents.
Last Will: Getting Sacked
In Last Will: Getting Sacked, the lawyers have found a hidden clause in your Uncle's last will. Spending money faster than all your relatives will not be enough. To inherit your Uncle's fortune, you must also lose your job! After all, your Uncle's heritage can't go to someone who's employed!
You will also have a chance to find yourself a good, demanding wife. A wedding is such a romantic way to spend piles of money in a hurry, right? So get down on one knee and ask the question!
Also, with this expansion, each game can have a different planning board to bring additional variety to the game. When you set up the game boards, the plan tiles that will be used in the game are chosen randomly.
Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar - Tribes & Prophecies
In Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar - Tribes & Prophecies, each player now becomes the leader of a particular tribe, which has a special ability only that player can use. There are 13 tribes in total to secure variety of the game (You know, 13 is a pretty spooky and magical number, right?).
The whole game is also influenced by 3 prophecies that are revealed ahead of time and fulfilled when the time is right. These prophecies give players other opportunities to score points, but also lose points if the players don't prepare themselves for when the prophecy is fulfilled. Again, there are 13 prophecies in the game altogether (Woohoo - 13 again!).
This expansion also has new components to allow 5-player game version and several new buildings with new abilities.
Galaxy Trucker: Latest Models
Galaxy Trucker: Latest Models consists of new game boards for 2-5 players with model C spaceships. Class 1C and 2C come on the same game board with some spaces that can be used for the 2C but not the 1C. Asteroids that approach the spaceship from the front or behind sometimes swoop around to hit the ship on the side, and asteroids that approach from the side sometimes split in half and hit the ship twice! A structural rift down the center of the spaceship requires universal connectors to connect only with other universal connectors when bridging this rift. So much for their universality!
Two other ships are also included – the infamous class III Sphere, and the class IV ship could end up splitting into 4 different ones in the middle of building it!
Dungeon Petz: Dark Alleys
Bringing you more than just new pets, cages and magic items, the Dungeon Petz: Dark Alleys has a whole new district in the town. This is the heart of the expansion. It’s kind of a back valley district in the Imp town where all the weird existences live and try to do their business. So would you like to hire a bodyguard or buy a pet on the black market? Maybe book a facility that produces food for active dogs, cats and dragons? And what about a fancy ribbon or a cool spiked collar for your pet? Taking care of your pets will never be the same.
